Mitsubishi Diamond Series WD-73838 73-Inch 3D DLP HDTV

I worked as a tester for the project for Voom HD Cablevision in the early days of HDTV. Also, I have three HDTVs (DLP and LCD 2 1), since then, so I have a basis for comparison - not my first experience with HDTV.

This Mitsubishi WD-73838 is a monster compared to the old 50-inch Samsung (see photo). The overall picture is excellent, but I would say that the image quality is much better than my old Samsung HL-T5076S 3 years (also 3D capable). At that time, was a series of very good quality and even today can still hang with the best of them. I paid ~ $ 1300 Samsung three years ago, and ~ $ 1,700 before tax / shipping 73 "Mitsubishi just last week @ Electronics Expo The price was great and definitely worth a simple screen size -.! A very good update .

The sound of this unit is really good with all stakeholders ... but let's face it - if you buy a TV in the giant theater, you probably already have a good 7.1 in April that supports all HD surround sound formats. And if you do not - you should.

Quality 3D (updated below): Now, my experience in this 3D TV content is restricted Motorsport 3D game for PS3. But also reduced to 720p and the 3D looks excellent. Waiting for some of the 3D movie as soon as BD 1080p.

For 3D, you need the adapter for all 3DA1 3D source that does not support the formats in a checkerboard pattern or in parallel (see update # 2 below!). Also note that the glasses X102 DLP Link are cheaper and work well, but there is a known problem with them - they seem to lose the connection to the TV if you're too far, or the bulb is not bright enough. At 10 feet, they begin to flash on and off at 12 feet, it is very difficult to stay connected. They also have a battery owner and rape you on shipping costs, so there may be a problem for some people.

Learn about HDTV and 3D before you buy! know all the options, formats and cons! avsforums. com is an excellent source of information on the subject.

What others have talked about 30-60 seconds to boot time .... I think that's true, if your TV is equipped with a cable or if you connect the TV for the first time since the (short) break. If your TV is connected (not part of the cable that controls the TV power) means that the TV is still a bit 'of energy even when turned off, so it takes about 10-15 seconds to boot. Remember, this is a TV projection and sophisticated that, just as the computer takes time to boot. When I was connected to a TV socket in boot times my experience was very brief.

UPDATE # 1 (November 2010): Well, after several months of ownership are still happy with this TV. Image is still amazingly smooth, watching the great migration is a NatGeo HD is simply amazing. 3D is very strong and ghosting. Better glasses that I found was viewsonics and optomas (they seem identical) here on Amazon. @ ~ $ 85 per couple for a number of pairs of friends and family. Some of the deepest and most amazing 3-D image and the impact I had at the IMAX: Deep Sea, Disney Christmas Carol, and the IMAX Grand Canyon Adventure (although this was not a pretty boring)

UPDATE # 2 (December 2010): Be sure to update the firmware TV (available at Mitsubishi)! Eliminates the need for the adapter adds support for 3D all necessary 1.4a 3D formats.
